52 Week Rankings – Monday, July 11th, 2016

By Dylan Reynolds, The Open Wheel

Our reoccurring feature at The Open Wheel continues with the production of Verizon IndyCar Series point standings over the last 52 weeks of the calendar. All points are accumulated based on what the driver earned in applicable races via the standard Verizon IndyCar Series points system. Date equity is not tremendous in this edition as Texas and Toronto remain unaccounted for but that will be solved with the Honda Indy Toronto this weekend.

Here are the rankings for the last 52 weeks as of Monday, July 11, 2016:

7-11-16 rankings

Simon Pagenaud continues to lead the rankings but Dixon has moved up to 2nd and Hunter-Reay fell to 4th. Power continued his surge to the top, now in P2, with a strong showing at Iowa. It’s great to see Josef Newgarden holding strong for Ed Carpenter Racing in P5. Towards the middle of the rankings Rossi has passed teammate Andretti for the first time even though he didn’t run the three races from last year still on the rankings.

We’ll add more features to these rankings as time goes on. We have some big ideas for this project. Check back after the Honda Indy Toronto for an update.
