Report: New team hoping to enter with Enerson when INDYCAR returns – RACER’s Marshall Pruett reports a new team, Top Gun Racing, is hoping to enter the NTT INDYCAR SERIES with RC Enerson as its driver when the series returns to racing. The team will attempt to qualify for this weekend’s iRacing INDYCAR Challenge event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and intends to make its on track debut at the 104th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race in August. Bob Lazier passes at 81 – “Bob Lazier, the 1981 CART Rookie of the Year who made his sole Indianapolis 500 start in that season, died Saturday, April 18. He was 81. Indy Dallara factory has switched production to PPE – “Dallara, the exclusive chassis supplier of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, is shifting gears in its Speedway, Indiana, factory and joining a host of other private businesses in the fight against COVID-19. INDYCAR releases revised schedule as of 4/6/20 – “The NTT INDYCAR SERIES announced several calendar updates today following the cancellation of the Detroit Grand Prix due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two previously scheduled events will become doubleheaders along with the addition of a third weekend of racing at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With these additions, there are 15 races on the 2020 INDYCAR calendar, an increase of one event from the 14 races announced March 26.” Full release at the link. Second race added on IMS road course on new weekend – “The stars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a third exciting racing event in 2020. The INDYCAR Harvest GP will take place Saturday afternoon, Oct. 3 on the IMS road course. The new event was unveiled today as part of INDYCAR’s updated 2020 schedule announcement. The GMR Grand Prix remains on the IMS schedule for Saturday, July 4, setting the stage for a history-making INDYCAR and NASCAR pairing over the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard weekend. The can’t-miss 104th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge will take place Sunday, Aug. 23. The INDYCAR Harvest GP joins a busy weekend of racing at IMS, with the previously announced Indianapolis 8 Hour beginning at 10 a.m. (ET) Sunday, Oct. 4. Detroit GP cancelled – “Detroit Grand Prix organizers announced today that the 2020 Grand Prix, originally scheduled for May 29-31 at Belle Isle Park, has been canceled due to the global COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. McLaughlin wins INDYCAR iRacing Challenge at Barber – Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin won the INDYCAR iRacing Challenge Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park on Saturday in a wild race. The full Top 5 was McLaughlin, Power, Speed, Palou, and Pagenaud. Karam earned the pole and led the first half of the race before he and Rosenqvist made contact shortly after their pit stops. INDYCAR confirms Watkins Glen as track and adds Johnson as driver for iRacing event – “The INDYCAR iRacing Challenge, a virtual racing event featuring a full field of NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers, begins this weekend with Saturday’s American Red Cross Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International beginning at 4 p.m. ET. The event, which will last approximately 90 minutes, will be streamed through INDYCAR.com while INDYCAR’s YouTube and Facebook platforms as well as iRacing’s Twitch will serve as additional outlets for viewing. The NBC broadcasting team of Leigh Diffey, Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy will be calling the action. The pre-race activities will be highlighted by iconic national anthem singer Jim Cornelison adding his voice as he has for the past three Indianapolis 500s. 104th Indy 500 moved to August & GMR Grand Prix moved to July 4th – “The Indianapolis 500 Presented by Gainbridge has been rescheduled for Sunday, Aug. 23 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials from INDYCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) announced today. The 104th edition of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” will air live on NBC, with the official green flag time to be announced at a later date. The GMR Grand Prix will transition to Saturday, July 4 on the IMS road course as part of a historic double-header featuring the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and NASCAR. This first-of-its-kind racing event also will be televised by NBC on Independence Day. The Indianapolis 500 was originally scheduled for Sunday, May 24, in its traditional spot on the calendar during Memorial Day weekend.
